With just over a month to go until Walk Ten at Stormont Estate, Belfast on Friday 2nd September, it’s still not too late to sign up and support Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Walk Ten is a series of unique 10k summer evening walks taking place at stunning venues across the UK.
Arlene Cooper from Castlereagh is taking part in Walk Ten in memory of her husband who was cared for by Marie Curie nurses. Since her husband passed in 2003 Arlene has challenged herself to fundraise for Marie Curie and is urging people to take part: “Marie Curie nurses in the Marie Curie hospice cared for my husband, Stephen, when he was fighting cancer. Marie Curie Walk Ten is such a special event as it celebrates the fantastic work that the nurses do and raises crucial funds to help them continue to provide care to terminally ill patients in their own homes. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to enjoy some great craic with family and friends – so what are you waiting for?”
Teresa Sloan, Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Events Manager for Northern Ireland, said: “There’s still time to sign up for Walk Ten. People taking part can expect fun evenings in the wonderful surroundings of Stormont Estate, Belfast and the Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh, and all the funds raised will make a big difference, helping Marie Curie Nurses to provide more care to local people with terminal illnesses.”
Walk Ten at the Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh is on Friday 19th August. Both walks start at 6pm. After the walk there will be fun activities throughout the evening such as fireworks, live music and picnics, in celebration of the work of Marie Curie Nurses. Registration is £10 per person (children go free) and all the funds raised will help Marie Curie Nurses provide free care to terminally ill people in their own homes and in the charity’s hospices.
